For help in an emergency, including police, medical emergency or fire:

                                                                                 Call 9-1-1

When you dial 9-1-1, your call is answered by the Vilas County Sheriff's Department Communication division, if you are calling from within Vilas County limits. Cell phone calls are also answered by the Vilas County Sheriff's Department. Our 911 enhanced system automatically prints the address and telephone number from where you are calling onto the dispatcher's screen. Citizens with hearing and speech impairments can directly reach 9-1-1 through a TDD answering service installed into the E9-1-1 software.

The dispatcher will answer your call by saying:

"9-1-1, where is your emergency?"

State location of the incident and the the problem or emergency. The dispatcher will start the appropriate fire department, ambulance or law enforcement agency en route while obtaining any additional information. If it is safe to do so, stay on the phone until the dispatcher is finished determining the nature of your emergency and until you are told to hang up. Remember to speak slowly and clearly so the dispatcher can get the correct information.
